MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

I believe Parisa from real world is a bossy, spoiled brat and even though I don’t believe violance solves anything. I believe Parisa instigated the problem between herself and the rest of the household and she too should be sent home. I think the other girls had the right idea, although spitting was stupid. I think out casting Parisa , not including her in anything is the way to go. After all, she has fought with every one in the house - A brat is a brat, they never change.

I am writing this in regards to the commercials & advertisements being shown during HeadBanger’s Ball on MTV2. MTV used to have a daily 30 minute show (Yo! MTV Raps). That is now the majority of what’s aired on your network(s). Except for Beavis & Butthead or possibly Jackass/Bam, Headbanger’s Ball is one of the few programs worth watching. I find myself watching it less and less and getting more and more aggravated by seeing commercials and advertisements for rap/hip-hop. That material shouldn’t be appealing to anybody who would be watching HeadBanger’s Ball. One night during HeadBanger’s Ball you showed a commercial of some kid rapping on what appeared to be an amateur/home video camera. Personally I found it very annoying and disturbing. It appeared to be in English, but for the most part I would have needed a translator if I wanted to understand. The little that I could make out sounded as if it was written by a 5 year old of below average intelligence for his age. Please advertise all such ignorant nonsense during those type of shows. It does not belong being aired along with REAL music, especially if you are showing classic metal videos. I understand that people who create REAL music are a dying breed and that people are very simple and easily entertained these days by main-stream, simple minded nonsense. I also understand that you have a business to run, but PLEASE TRY!!! Most hip hop today is nothing but retarded lyrics with an electronic beat over classic rock music. These listeners today don’t even realize that. Please either designate one of your many channels just for that type of material, or leave it all to BET.

MTV. wow i have a lot to say.. first of all, good job for putting boys like girls as artist of the week. now all these really cool girls are all like ” oh my god, my new favorite band , they’re all so hot, i like that one song, you know the great escape, that they overplay on radios and everything” they are one of my favorite bands in the world. i knew them before mtv, before they were played on z100. you basically ruined them. not for me, cause i still love them a lot and their music is amazing and they’re amazing. but you just ruined them. so no thanks for that. second of all, my friend just informed me that all time low played on trl. GREATTTT, another one of my favorite bands, getting all big and popular on mtv. again, with the situation where people are gonna be all in love with them, when they just know one song, and dont even really like the band. i’m in love with them, and i loved the fact that i was one of the few people in my school that knew them and the only people that liked them knew them not through tv or radio, cause they dont play on radio and tv. and they are amazing i cant even explain how their music inspires me. so basically, thanks again for ruining another great band. and lastly, i’d like to say that the reality shows suck. like the hills…okay most of it is scripted. and i bet a lot of nieve people out there think that its not, well wake up. it is. and the only show i truly watch is runs house. but thats only because i love rev run and his family is quite funny. thats about all i have to say, so mtv, thanks for stealing my bands. you suck

Please play more videos! I really could care less about some really hot chicks from Laguna Beach having random sex with cast members, friends, animals, and etc. I really like Made though. Im not leaving a comment in regards to weather MTV is good or bad, im a dedicated fan either way. I was more or less wondering if there was any way a person could go about getting certain listings of old music videos. The many faces of Music television are forever adapting to fit the new and always changing styles of music, and thats a good thing. I have come to realize that sifting through years or music videos is a huge task especially when there are always new ones coming in. I just cant help but wonder sometimes what happened to some of my old favorites. Throughout the many years of growing up with MTV its sometimes hard to remember the names of all songs that were once favorite videos. Any ways what im trying to say is MTV is always moving with the times and thats good, but is there anyway to search the past to rediscover the old favorites?? or even somehow i can find titles of old favorites to look up elsewhere??

In the previous comments i read about BLG, i agree! every girls is gunna say, “OMG I LOVE BOYS LIKE GIRLS! THE GREAT ESCAPE IS MY FAVORITE SONG, THEY ARE MY FAVORITE BAND!” no. thanks for killing it and you know how many people are against MTV now. Thats mad cool. Hey I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I am not another MTV basher. You guys are fresh and innovative for the most part without being corny (think: the credit card companies that market to college students). I just wonder why you guys don’t post all the songs from episodes. For example, on The Hills, I really appreciate you posting a track list from each episode; it’s great exposure to new artists for the audience, but there are always songs left off of it, and most of the time they’re by new artists, so finding the names/ artists of songs elsewhere is pretty difficult. I’ve been on many many forums where people are asking each other what song it was they heard from the Hills because the lyrics turned up no search results in a search engine (typical of new/ little-known artists), and it wasn’t listed on the track list for the episode. I’m currently still looking for several of these songs.I know myself and many others would sincerely appreciate it if you would post accurate track lists. Thank you.

Seriously I am not sure what to say right now… my roommates and I watch THE HILLS every monday night! It is by far our favorite reality show. I am not here to bash them or the show but WHAT THE HELL is MTV thinking with that after show. It was seriously awful! The hosts are so so awful!!!! It sounds like a freaking 2 year old is hosting an interview. THIS IS SERIOUSLY SOOOO ANNOYING!!!!!!! AHHHHH they ruined the after show. We had to mute everytime they were talking. AH it sucks so so bad.

The hosts for The Hills after show are the WORSE hosts. They are not entertaining…they are purely annoying, not funny and painful to watch. They get nothing accomplished, and they absolutely RUINED another Hills after show. There has to be better hosts lingering the hallways at MTV.

Hosts you used for The Hills after show were the most annoyingly stupid people. They could have been better trained by a monkey. They had no interview skills, they were ugly, they clearly could not read the prompt, they obviously has no idea what happened on the show, and they’re generally stupid.

i am really not impressed, as a mtv fan and a follower of the hills, laguna beach etc, i log in online to try and watch the hills season 3 finale and it is saying due to copyright laws i cannot watch this as am living in the uk
i think this is terrible as i have followed the show right up to the last episode and i cannot even buy it in the shops.
you cans need to think about your worldwide fans not just the american ones, cause they dont just pay ur bills.

I am so frustrated! MTV UK is a total waste of time so I try the US version and hooray I can watch the Hills and catch up on all the episodes I’ve missed. Then, strangely, this week I’m told it can’t be viewed outside the US!!!!!!!!!!! Something major happen in a week that you can’t show the finale episode to people in other countries that have been following it?????? MTV on the whole is a total load of rubbish Sort it out, will you or put some kind of explanation other than copyright jargin! Can’t even view Season 1 Ep 1 which is from 2 yrs ago?!
