MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

I am trying to sign up so that I can comment on cast bio’s for Real World Hollywood and for the url thing that we have to chose, well … the check availability link does not work! It is irritating!

I am interested in buying the fabulous music soundtrack from The Hills episode #319 “Paris Changes Everything”, but there is no place on the site to order it. Are the songs from that episode available to buy on one cd?? If so where and how much??

enough already with the top model! do you really think every weekend, weekday, everybody wants to watch it! that is the kind of stuff they play on the WE Channel. do you guys really have nothing else to show - gee, maybe some videos instead of 10 second clips. or better yet why don’t you play some of the old shows. apparently you have slipped so far away from what you started to be - that the only people you can cater to are 12 year olds. i thought that was what nickalodeon was for.

I don’t know if this is the right place to say this. But I hope MTV is planning something really good for the VMA’s. Hope theres really good performances and awards. By awards I mean more categories so theres more winners. The VMA’s awards werre’nt fair at all. I hope that this award show tops all awards shows for ‘08. (hint:BET Awards because there doing the same thing that TRL did last year (press confrence) and they have a lot of good artist performing). Hope that MTV tops that. I write this because i wish i could take part in making this show HOTT. But im just s viewer and im just saying what i think should be done so MTV can stand out. Good performance’s by: Danity Kane, Britney Spears, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Usher, Nelly, Day 26, Ciara, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Lil Mam, Chris Brown, Rihanna and so on. Have more diversity in the show. Im tired of the show always being favored more towards american (white) artist and not black.

I think it is hilarious that you have a game called “musicology.” Musicology is a real thing, and it is not “the astrology of music.” It is also not that much fun.
Also, will anyone important actually read this? I suspect that this message board thing isn’t actually feedback, it’s just a way to distract us from our problems by getting us to argue with each other.

I have an idea for your True Life show. Instead of “Jersey Girls” who only live here on weekends in the summer…why don’t you do it on people that live here ALL YEAR LONG and get the real inside scoop on REAL JERSEY SHORE GIRLS. Like, one’s that actually live here.

I love to watch dating reality shows such as Tila, but it would be great to see people like Eminem or Britney looking for their soul mate. I think people would enjoy seeing what type they are interested in, how they treat people and act when searching for the right person. Even if they didn’t want to participate maybe some other single and popular artist would want to participate, bet it would be great! Just thought I’d post my idea and opinion, even if its not possible. I enjoy watching the network, and look forward to more reality shows involving music artist, Thanks. Alyssa

The Real World was great with Joey Kovar in it, and know its getting a bit lame. Also your cast members and you guys don’t do a good job in keeping the information disclosed on what is to happen. Upon looking at pictures found in the Real World Hollywood’s im on mtv profiles, one can find various pics of two more individuals who keep appearing in all of them. It doesn’t take too long to figure it out,… that Joey and Greg will be replaced by two african american people. One girl and one guy…it’s ridiculous!
The show should of done more of an effort to keep Joey in the show! All Joey’s fans can hope for is that they bring him to other shows like the Duel and such!

Hi, I keep trying to watch the first episode of season two of the Hills, but every time the first commercial ends, it says “Buffering” and then never starts again. I can’t figure out how to watch past the first commercial.

I was flipping through the channels and saw a sight of woman kissing each other on MTV. MTV is pretty disgusting, you purposely put on this type of filth because you know that many kids and teenagers watch your channel. MTV is trying to destroy the morals and values of younger kids, you need to keep this filthy, offensive type of shows for your perverts within your station to watch on their own.

I have a question about a song i heard on one of the mtv show’s. It was on the last engaged and underage: i do redo at 9:30a.a. on may 19th.
it a male singer voice singing it and part of the lyrics i caught was
“i fall to pieces” know i searched that song but none of the ppl i found is singing the right song and its not his voice. Please help its a beautiful song

I just wanted to ask why all your “sweet sixteen” features are presenting only
super rich people. Why not cover a regular girl’s sweet sixteen, especially when
people could see how you can make a party a great success with little money
but great creativity. Seriously, I get so frustrated watching these shows because

I think that there should be a Real World for High School students. I think that would be really interesting, and easier for the High Schoolers to relate to. It should be done over the summer so no one misses school. One show could be with 7 kids that don’t know eachother, and the other show could be with a group of 7 friends living under one roof for the summer. It would be a blast to watch!

I would like to protest against the premise of the Discover and Download poll asking people which band Tokio Hotel most reminds us of! There should be an option saying, No one - they’re totally unique! because that’s what most TH fans think!!! We love them so crazily because they’re utterly unlike anything else that exists. No one sounds like them. No one looks like them. No one knows how to rock a live audience like them. They are precious and irreplacable. All so-called contemporaries - posers. They have no peers - they are the one beautiful star in the heart of a supernova, and all that surrounds them is dust, poisonous gas and chunks of meteor rock. Nothing even close.

Sometimes, I enjoy watching the opulent homes of entertainers. But honestly, it’s not necessarily the entertainer that makes it interesting. It’s the unrestrained show of wealth that makes me smile.
As such, if MTV can find a way to get Amin Makesh (I believe that’s his name) crib on the show, that would be awesome. He’s the wealthiest guy in India and he is building the most expensive home ever: a 26-story 1.4 billion dollar home. Makesh’s home is going to take the cake…hands down. Check out the plans. Forbes has him listed as the 14th wealthiest person on Earth. I just want to see it. And MTV has the power to show it.
