MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

Hi, please for the love of all that is holy, STOP PLAYING AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL every second of the day.
Do a marathon of old MTV shows, Newlyweds, Sorority Life/Fraternity Life, PR Girls, The Osbournes, Laguna Beach, Real World/Road Rules episodes from the 90s….anything other than the shows you have been currently playing.
PLEASE. WE ARE BEGGING YOU. You are going to continue to lose viewers if you keep replaying the same awful shows over and over into the ground.

I really enjoy the reality shows like Laguna Beach and The Hills. I am sort of disappointed that you stopped filming the Laguna Beach crew. It would be nice to see where everything ended with Rocky and Alex, and Chase. I suggest to have a follow up season with that crew.

I had the craziest idea today! I was thinking, if MTV could do reality shows such as Made, or The Paper- wouldn’t it be interesting if they had a reality show on, let’s say, marching band?
I know it’s a far fetched idea to think that maybe there could ever possibly be a reality show on marching band, but I must admit that it would be kind of cool if there was.

I will be turning 50 years old soon. I also have been watching some of your shows.Which consists of young people wanting to change, be made over, or something that they have alwas wanted to do. What about US older people that have through some misfortunes in their lifes and would love to have something wonderful happen to them. For myself I was widowed at 32, my Sheirffs husband suicide, then domestic violence, and then abandoned with 3 children. I would LOVE a place to live (moved 38x), and or make over and or learn how to beat my wonderful son at skate boarding lol, and alwas ride like the wind on a beautiful horse. MOSTLY somehow make my 3 children not to think of me as a LOSER, that makes the wrong choices, never putting myself first never saying NO when needed only to be hurt and alone. Got any IDEAS to help a soon to be 50 year old that would love to rock her kids(29,14,and11)???????? How would these young people that you alwas give dreams to when they havent even had a chance to experience life and regrets. all i have to say is 1 word…..BUFFERING….why o why MTV???? This network has WAY TOO MUCH MONEY not to have your network together!! Get it together! It almost makes me think this is an amateur project! I’m sure you have the technological staff to get a decent support network together. FIX THE BUFFERING!!! IS IT REALLY THAT HARD!!!!!

It was reported by the RIAA recently that as of 2007 there has been a 78% increase in the sales of compact discs over digital downloads at 23%. The number of physical CD’s sold this year is slightly lower than years prior. Like many other items that are now being recycled, shouldn,t the compact disc whether it be music, data or video be recycled as well for future uses? I have found that old Cd’s make great drink coasters, can be highly decorative as well. Shouldn,t the public be encouraged to recycle these items as oppossed to discarding them?

During tonights, finale event of the hills, you guys aired trivia about the hills cast members. I noticed a lot of mistakes on there
First of all, Stephen’s name was spelled Steven, also it said he dated hilary duff (whos name was spelled hillary duff) when in reality he dated hayden panettierre.

Dear MTV,
My roommate and me love the Hills. It is like the greatest show ever. We love MTV too. It is all we watch up here in college. But we have some questions. How do half these people get there own shows? Is it because they are so drama filled or is because over half of them are rich? We think that there needs to be a show about normal, none rich, people living their life day by day. We think that we would make a great show with our lives in college. We are just normal, average kids just trying to get through college and we wish there was a show about that. We are almost getting sick of watching all the drama. Today we were watching the Hills and the Paper and we were seriously yelling at the TV because the people in the show were making us so mad. I’m not saying you need to give us a show and I don’t even know if you are going to read this. But we just wish there was more shows that were just like us. The normal, average kids who have just as interesting lives as the people do on the MTV shows. We really think you guys at MTV should consider what we are saying. I have to admit that I’m a little upset by an episode of “The Paper” I just watched. In the episode, some staffers attended a Dave Matthews Band concert. Not only were the kids referring to the Band as simply, “Dave Matthews,” when the band was playing “Everyday,” the message at the bottom of the screen stated the title of the song and then the band name. But the name mtv gave the band was “Dave Matthews” instead of “Dave Matthews Band.” Dave Matthews himself has made a point of specifying that there is the Band and then his solo career, which is simply, “Dave Matthews.” I’m sure the band doesn’t care about the show, but they’d appreciate your getting their name right.

Hi I have a question do you guys ever wonder or even think about bringing someone with a disability into one of your real world seasons? I mean i’m just asking cause if you think it would be an idea let me know…I have a prosthesis and i woudn’t mind being on the real world. jajaja i sitll am a real person…so is just a thought MTV love your shows….
