MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

Have you ever thought of once a month playing past seasons of the Real World? From the first to the most recent. If not on television then maybe online.

This is for MTV Yo Raps…I have a major question…..I was watching Rap songs from 1994-95 and this artist came on on he had clips from the movie The Player, Julia Roberts was in it and Tim Robbinns and Cher….the song sounded like Reggae mixed with rap…who is this artist ??? I was a past contestant on MTV’s Ultimate Spring Break in Daytona Beach back in 1991. It was called the ENDUR-A-THON. How come I can’t find anything about it on Mtv’s website?

I think that mtv should do a true life episode on pathelogical liars. I know a person in particular who would be interesting and great for the show. Its just an idea but I know that theres a lot of people throughout the world who could relate to this and I know for a fact that this would change many lives.

This is a complaint actually. What burns me is that I’m always watching Colbie Callait music videos on CMT When I don’t hear her at all on my local country . music stations. Now I know She is not Country music, but why do you insist on not playing her videos on all three MTV channels? Why does have to be on CMT, Do you not have anywhere to put her on your MTV line up? I would like an answer, thank you.

I just wanted to commend the Yo MTV throwback anniversary.I grew up on the Yo era and it really brought back some memories.
Is it possible to have like a weekend marathon of the segments with DJ Cipha before it goes off the air? I missed some of the episodes and i enjoyed the discussions and the videos.

What is going on with the closed caption on MTV? It is not working. Some of the people in our household use the closed captioning feature. But we have noticed that it is not working on MTV anymore. It is all garbled and does not make any sense. It is not our TV, b/c we have several TV’s in our home and the CC is messed up on all of them, but only on MTV channel. The CC feature is working fine on all the other TV channels. Is anyone else experiencing this or has noticed it? I wonder what happened……….??

The full episode video play back is horrible. Not only does it freeze every 10 seconds, it skips entire parts and then somehow the audio from a different scene plays in the background. Get it together already. You have enough advertising on your site that you should be able to provide a decent video player!

Hello RTV aka MTV I just want to ask if mabey you can stop showig America’s Next Top Model “PLEASE and THANKS”…also I just wanted to comment on The MTV Real World Awards I dissagree 100% with Austin winning best season I personally dont think yall should have left the voting to be online………………also I was wondering if you guys were gonna do a special 8 epsidoe for The Real World Hawaii cast reuniting since you guys did the same for Vegas I really liked Hawaii it one of the best Real World season’s and Ruthie has really changed and I would like to see more of that………….also can you please show more older true life episodes like the one with the girls getting implants and aslo more body image true life’s………..you guys did a bulimia nervosa episode and I would really like to see that one again………….please and thanks!!!!

I don’t have beta feedback so much. However, I’m wondering how we can convince you all to get MTV’s Undressed on DVD i know at least 100 people who’d buy it in my friend group! COME ON! It was one of my favorite shows ever!

HI everyone at mtv i am now begining to despair. Great bands are going to waste. mtv used to be 24/7 videos you used to put music from all genras on tv now its some type of little bow wow rap what ever happened to tu pacs style of rapping like ice cube and stuff,….anyway i’m into metal and alternative including emo and screamo but rap has really turned into som puff dady and mace complation makes me sick. you haven’t showed any videos on mtv 1 since like 2000 and it makes me mad that you for some reason believed you could run par with great reality shows like survivor and american idol. I think that if i pay for cable i should at least get to see a couple videos on the music televison station…..you used to let people decide how to shape pop culture….the 80’s for example were because of the wealth of musical publiscity provided by you,,,,damn i don’t expect a change but it would be nice not to have to add 20 dollars to my cable bill just to watch and hour of metal on mtv2……what happened to the alternative rock that sounds like tool the deftones(early) korn(life is peachy and self titled) slipknot great melodic hardcore all the extreamity has gone out of mtv i bet mtv2s metal isn’t even that good just some compilement of bands chosen by someone who doesn’t know a thing about good music….who chooses this stuff its awful you may say but we get ratings and the bands we market get sales. really since the internet they have gone down…and people buy whats out there…but if mtv 1 had videos from all genras they would get more ratings than mtv2 and what ever trash its playing……just because of its availibity….. you have taken the democrocy out of pop culture and have become a dictator putting out good music has become a riskay endevor but i capatolisim blows so i guess i cant fight the man i hope i get to watch a video on mtv someday but really i may never see a new rock video again and you guys used to be all about rock. i want my i want my iwant my mtv

The Executives at MTV Viacom are a bunch of bean counting idiots! Rock the Cradle is a fantastic show! But, without advertising no one knows the show exists. Viacom is relying on MTV’s reputaion to get them ratings for a show based on music. unfortunately MTV has not been based on music for a very long time. It is more like a reality dating channel more than any thing else. Rock the Cradle doesn’t have a single billboard or commercial letting any one know that the show exists. How can a show be successful if no one knows its there? Especially if your typical audience is a bunch of fourteen year olds that just want to watch stupid dating shows. MTV’s rating on all of its programming are about to into the toilet unless some one in a cush executive chair realizes that their programming is mostly crap, and decides to put some effort back into making MTV a music television station rather than an idiotic dating television station. MTV please figure it out….YOUR FORMAT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Episode 3 ‘playback’ attempts is all screwed up. No matter who you click on, the Crosby/Jessie part plays over and over. Impossible to see Chloes song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the mtv video player is not working! it keeps skipping around during the shows a i want to watch. especially during episode 2 of the real world hollywood can never play part 5 (the best part) and keeps skipping back to the beginning. FIX IT NOW!!!
