MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

I don’t know if someone from MTV actually read my feedback from a couple months ago suggesting you guys should play M.I.A, but thank you for finally showing M.I.A on MTV! I think she has a unique cultural sound and her lyrics have such a political message hidden with a phat dance beat. THank you thank you! Mtv has done something good for once!

I am looking for a Jazz song that was featured in an MTV animated holiday commercial during the 90’s. It was Horn and Piano driven. Since there are no lyrics to this song, it is hard to search for. Any help would be appreciated.

Please fix the video player!! I’ve tried to watch several shows and have had issues with all of them. If the clip loads, the sound from the ad before it plays again over the audio of the show. Some of the clips don’t load at all, or stop every 3 seconds to buffer. Now, when I click on Real World Sydney, it goes to a blank page and says its done loading. Please help your internet viewers!!!

What has happened to the old MTV? You guys should call yourself STV. Stupid Television. You don’t play music videos anymore… and when you do they’re of sh*tty artists. I’m so sick of your stupid shows that brainwash the young generation. You’re sending out the message that being dumb and rich is the ultimate goal in life. Please play more music videos and no more beyonce, britney spears, pink and and all those rappers who rap about spinners and grills. May I suggest some Muse, Daft Punk, Justice, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, and Tool? Please go back to when MTV was a great channel. Bring back the show Daria! My friends and I love that show so much. Please show old re-runs like Daria, Beavis and Butthead, Diary, and Making the Video instead of America’s Next Top Model and those other dumb shows.

i just want to say that im pissed because im watching shot at love with tila tequila and anticipating the results to see who goes home, then it goes to commercial, and it clearly advertises THE FINAL THREE!!! what the hell? way to ruin it for me. i hate when shows do that. mtv should know better. i am so angery at the real world sydney cast that i just went straight to the website to leave a comment. firstly trisha is a spoiled mean ?@?*$! she calls herself a christian and all ive seen her do is drink, curse, cheat on her boyfriend and judge people! she should have expected that her actions would have consequences, if you put your hands on people U BETTER EXPECT to go home! and she has been mean to parisa from the begining, how can she expect to be taken sincerly. and kellyanna is sooooo fake she pretended to be the nice girl and her true colors came out. spitting on the glass of the phone room! it is both childish and disrepectful! kellyanna is a follower and a fony ?@?*$. i really think that everyone picks on parisa because she is the minority. Every time I post a comment about Trisha (negative) I will post and then someone deletes it. What is going on there. Is someone deleting posts. Someone should check it out. That is just not right. I am following all the rules so I don’t know why that would happen.

Ok, I have to say I am very disturbed by the cast of The Real World Sydney. From day one all the girls have picked on Parisa like they are in high school. She was absolutely right sending that ??*#% Trisha home. If the tables were turned she would have done the same thing. Parisa has been mistreated by her room mates because she is non-white (duh obvious) from day one. And if Trisha is such a “Christian” she wouldn’t have to spit it out all the time like she has turrets!!!! If you’re a real Christian it shows in your actions and I didn’t see any Christian like behaviors. My question for MTV, would you ever put one white girl in a house with all other races???????? Most likely not!!!

can we please PLEASE get more of Rob and Big!!!! I have never seen a funny more well put together program in my life. there is NO drama and its funny as hell. Its the only program I have ever watched that I have laughed out loud when Im by myself. I was out of town for work and I was watching it in my hotel and I was laughing so hard the people next door came over and asked me to shut up.

The thing I’m concerned about is that MTV is promoting a movie, “The Golden Compass”, that is, as the author has admittedly confirmed in 2001 when he was interviewed, about kill god, and is focused on getting children, to which the movie and original books are marketed to, to deny the existence of god and become atheists. All of which can be confirmed by doing a simple internet search through any popular search engine. Very concerned.

The Kaya web page says that it is now airing at 11:00pm on Saturdays, but when I went to watch it at that time last Saturday, I found that it had just ended, and was actually aired at 10:00 instead. So, I missed the episode, and I haven’t been able to watch it anywhere, because you’re only streaming episodes 1-3 and 5. Where is episode 4?!?! You can’t advertise the wrong time and then not provide it for the people who missed it, people who are your key audience and are trying to get into the show. Please stream episode 4, or make it free on iTunes!!

Fix this: On the Tokio Hotel page you listed the bassist as Gustav Schäfer and drummer Georg Listing. That is wrong it needs to be the other way around. Source: http://tokiohotel.pop24.de/tokiohotel2/index2_uk.php (Their website under bios.) Also I had the hardest time adding this comment. It was so annoying how things weren’t labeled properly and I went around in circles. Even now I don’t know if this is the correct place to comment. Fix that as well. If people want to give feedback, make the button on the homepage, “Send Us Feedback”, please direct it to some format and/or a page directing people were to go exactly- maybe make different categories to post comments such as one for fixing mistakes on your website. Arg. This experience has been completely frustrating. Thank you so very much. ARG!

Come on MTV, proof-read your writing before putting it on the Internet for all to see. You have spelled words wrong, used in correct grammar and use incorrect punctuation. Whether MTV producers choose to admit it or not, Tila Tequila’s behavior will eventually lead her to AIDS…having multiple sexual partners leads one to AIDS and that’s a fact…

On MTV’s The Hills season 3, episode 14 Forgive and Forget a song is played while Heidi is walking up to Lauren’s apartment with flowers. It goes:
“I don’t want to live in a place so small…I hear your voice outside these walls and I wish that I could say something”. However, the song is not listed on the site. I would love to know who sings it and its title.

I cant believe the hills and laguna beach actually became shows, i would rather watch infomercials or teletubies, honestly, even sesame street has more meaning. The scripting of this show is, to put plainly, terrible. MTV may stand for musical television but this is just sad, the characters aren’t famous to begin with and in case none of you watch the news, ‘the hills’ characters are considered more useless than lindsay lohan or paris hilton. Please, for the love of god, get rid of this terrible show, it’s amazing the hills made it to season three.

Hi. I’ve been trying to watch the Hills and the Real World on my MacBook (using both safari and firefox browsers) but whenever I try to load a video it freezes up and won’t load. The same problem occurs on the Mac computers at my school. Maybe its a problem with the browser compatability but it would be great if you could fix it! You have before .. so i would be so grateful =] thanks

I really enjoy the show very,very much and I’ve watched Lauren since she was on L.B. and I loved that show too. I really like watching this show because it really shows that life is hard but we all can live the way we want to as adults. Life is what you want to make it that’s what makes it fun!

The video (full episodes) leave a lot to be desired. I like that you can launch a full screen, but I’ve had many problems watching the shows I like. Sometimes one or two shows will work, but Real World and the Hills seem to be consistently messed up (won’t load). I’ve tried from work and home and it hasn’t been working for days! The advertisements load just fine, just not the shows. Please fix it MTV!

don’t really understand why you give a link to embed a video… every time i’ve tried to the player loads with an image of the video, if you click on the screen it gives you a url to “get website”, if you click play, words pop up saying “this video will only play on mtv.com”. so why even give an embed option if you can only play them off mtv.com? probably to drive people like me crazy!

In regards to the top ten best wizard rock bands of 2007, as a wrock fan, I’m a little outraged by this. This is supposed to be THIS years top list right? The Switchblade Kittens wrote like one song about Harry Potter back in 2002! No ones heard of them since! Go read the comment boards at leakynews.com and see how many people know who they are. Very few. Have you ever been to a wrock show that features multiple bands? Because I think wrock fans would disagree with you ratings. And where in the world is Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls on this list? He is absoulutley spectacular! As is the Weasel King! Harry and the Potters deserve the number one spot based on their fan following alone along with their hilarious lyrics that are only rivaled by Draco and the Malfoys. You also included some mediocre bands such as catchlove and ranked them higher than the hugely popular Whomping Willows! I have a great displeasure of your ordering, putting in a forgotten band on the list and a lacking of a certain talented band. Just because you covered wrock in one brief airing on MTV doesn’t make you an expert and I don’t think you had much to back up your list. But aside from my scathing comments, I do want to thank you for atleast trying to recognize wizardrock and its following if if you did so poorly.
