MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

Dear MTV,
For the past 6 years your VMA’s have not done so well. they have been really uneventful and quite frankly lame. Here’s an idea. Why not have Madonna and Janet Jackson come out together and pretend to give each other attitude kinda playing up the Madge/Janet fan-feud that’s been fueling on the net for years. Have Madge say something like “I’m with Justin now” and then Janet replies” I had him first b*tch” LOL.

I agree with most people in that it is nice to catch up on shows on the site and the site is nicely designed, but it is slow and the buffering is a problem. I currently don’t have cable and I watch everything online. Other TV stations sites allow you to view in full screen mode which this site does not. I have been having a problem watching the latest Rob and Big. It keeps repeating the first thumbnail when you click on other thumbnails. Its cool to have the option to watch, but at times it get so frustrating that I’ll quit watching in mid show.

I just watched you broadcast of ‘True Life’ (April 5, 2008 – 7:00pm).
The sound had LOUD music in the lead and the people talking were in background. Before you mix a sound track you sound person should NOT do crack.
A 5 year old could do a better job.

Why would you have the excessively large logo on during a concert. Its already annoying all these logo’s on, you have to have it on also during a concert. I dont know why you dont make it smaller or see thru. It’s really annoying, I know what channel I’m watching, I dont need to be reminded.

Hello MTV, I have been watching mtv’s reality shows all the time, very fun to watch them. I have an suggestion - what about making a show about young architects who struggle thru college studio sleepless nights and days to fine tuned his design, wish to show the world the best building to live in by inspirations from painters, musicians, philosophers… and etc. When they come to reality (work), they realize what they learn in school was little. There are budget, politics, building code to deal with before his/her idea can be really implemented. I think this will be an interesting show. On the other hand, it helps Americans to appreciate architecture more. It’s good to have safe building, but architecture can be more than just that. Please email me, I would like share more idea of this kind of show.

MICHAEL STIPE NOT MICHAEL STRIPE. Check the political update that you folks have been running for the last few days on MTV.
REM has been one of the most important alternative rock bands for over 20 years now. Their videos helped MTV gain its audience back in the day. Michael Stipe deserves to have his name spelled correctly on MTV.

i was so excited to see yo! mtv raps. they introduce great videos then i have to listen to conversation about the video instead of seeing it. its so annoying. you get about 12 seconds of video and the rest is someone’s opinion on the video. so ridiculous!

Let it go! Times have changed! There’s more technology now! She’s a great singer-songwriter, so she deserves to break the record.
In fact, some of her best material wasn’t released outside her albums. She has written some of the deepest songs I’ve ever heard. 
And, to MTV:
The only good thing that you’ve done lately was showing Mariah’s “I’m That Chick” performance online. Otherwise, you’ve basically lost this woman as a viewer. I know that you can’t believe everything you hear, but from reading these comments here, I can see that MTV is in worse shape than I thought. I mean, really! A LACK of music videos during the day, rigging contests, running disgusting shows like Human Giant, and even giving a one-sided view to the current election for president!

If there is a way MTV can get Britney a message, I think it would help her. I am 47, female and know alot about depression, anxiety and bipolar disease. I just want to see if you can get Britney a message. My sister and I did alot of research on all 3 subjects, and found out that Magnesium Taurate (Can be bought at the Vitamin Shoppe or online). Start with 250 mg and work up to 500 mg. It helps with depression and anxiety. It worked for 2 family members, who are now doing great. She also has to do trial and error, to see what Rx’s work best together. Effexor XR, Remeron and Seroquel, work the best for Bipolar disorder. I know there are alot of weirdos out there, but this is a very sincere person, who has dealt with this disease for years and has done alot of research.
Hopefully, somehow this info can be relayed to Britney and I wish her well and I wish the Paparazzi would get a real job and leave her alone. They are a big part of why she cannot get any peace in order to get better.

Hey I was just writing to you about the new song rock the cradle….Honestly the host of the show is not good, he constantly was cutting off everyone that was talking in the first episode and its not cute. Also he makes jokes that arent funny, you can tell that he is new. He just needs to slow down a little and let everyone have a say not just him.

the site is fine, loads a little slow in some places but that happens. I would just like better help on finding music. you have this song I love on two of your shows but you dont say what it is in either and when i look up the lyrics on your website, it doesnt come up. where do i go to ask the song title? its on real world sydney episode 19 and the real world bash when they are announcing the best love story.

I sometimes watch the show “Real World” and I would like to do one of those show’s about type 1 diabetes. When I was 13 I was diagnosed and every since then it’s made a huge difference and so i would like to a show to let people know, hey this is out here and you should at least be aware of what it can do and how you can get, by partying and if you do have it your at very much of a risk of dieing a whole lot easier. And a whole lot of us who have this still can do everything we were able to do before, and we still have the same dreams as we did, the only thing that’s changed is what we have to do to stay alive.

I am from Canada, therefore I am unable to view the video’s on mtv.ca. This is very disapointing for someone like me who is a huge Twilight fan and is unable to view the Twilight Film Set Interviews. Is there anything that can be done about this? Thanks.

The new site is good for the most part. i agree with most people about the videos buffer too much, and how when you try to post a comment at the end of video and the video ends you lose your comment. if its your first time watching a video and want to leave a comment about it, you wait til the end of the video to do so. Also i think it would be better if when you made videos full screen for the first time it didnt start the video over instead just picked up from where you clicked the button.

the 2 new hills episodes arent working! You can see all the videos with the old version of reproducing the videos but with the new version you cant see any video. I think that the old version is a lot better than the old one.

To have “The Hills” on a different,more difficult media player than the other shows isn’t too smart. That media player is causing a lot of viewers, a lot of problems. Please switch back to the older media player.
