MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

To the 2008 MTV Movie Award Nominating Committee: I do not know if you have already decided who to pick for your Generation Award yet, but if you haven’t, then I’d like to suggest who should claim the prize: actor Joaquin Phoenix.
I’m sure you know him from such monster hits such as “Walk the Line,” “Gladiator,” and “We Own the Night.” But he has also done smaller films such as “Buffalo Soldiers,” “Hotel Rwanda,” and “Reservation Road.” In all of these films, he not only promotes excellence in his acting abilities, but he creates a real character for us to care about. He not only takes a role, but makes it into something special and memorable.
He was just honored with the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Leading Man, so it is quite obvious that audiences everywhere love him. He is one of those actors who can charm you and make you laugh, and can also play a very serious role and make you cry. He has an authenticity that most actors do not possess nowadays, and has been delivering one great performance right after the other. There is something endearing about watching him as he delivers a performance, and you and I know that we are watching something special: an incredible actor at work.
Having been previously nominated for his work in “Walk the Line,” and “Gladiator,” I find that now is a great time to honor the actor, and give him the recognition he so rightly deserves.
If unfortunately, you have picked out who the Generation Award should be this year, please consider him for next year. And also consider him for his subtle yet mezmerising work in “We Own the Night,” or “Reservation Road.” I would suggest if you were to nominate him for “We Own the Night,” a few good categories would be for Best Kiss (shared with Eva Mendes), Best Performance, Best Fight (shared with Mark Whalberg). Or for “Reservation Road” you could do Best Performance, Best Villain, or Best Fight (shared with Mark Ruffalo).
I would highly consider these options, and would be foolish for any award to not recognize his work this year, or for any year. He is already an Academy Award and SAG nominated, Golden Globe winning actor. So why not hand him an MTV Movie Award for the prestigious Generation Award, or for any of the categories I just listed. I hope you make the right decision by considering him for any of the categories, and I hope this year the MTV Movie Awards will be fantastic.
P.S. Simon Pegg should also be considered for his side-splitting comedic turn in “Run, Fat Boy, Run,” for Best Comedic Performance, or Best Fight (shared with Dylan Moran).

I would just like to say I like that show America’s Best Dance Crew, but Kaba Modern should have been in the final because they work and play hard. Can we get some other judges next season that should actually be there like…Jc is cool but how bout Lori Ann from P-diddy’s old staff? And…whoever that Shane person is I guess is cool.

STOP ANTM MARATHONS. That is the main reason I pretty much stopped watching MTV besides when you replay America’s Best Dance Crew.
Speaking of America’s Best Dance Crew, I think it’s time for A MARATHON! Please!
And when is a new Real World/Road Rules Challenge airing? ABDC and the Challenges are the only things I watch on MTV.

Please stop playing America’s Next Top model marathons. I can’t think of a show on MTV that has less to do with music that this horrible series. I’m so sick of it being played over and over again.

I love being able to watch missed episodes of your shows. I don’t see any of TRL. It’s on during a time when I’m usually not home so I’d love to watch. Also, I’d like to be able to watch some of the older Real World shows but it looks like you keep only the most recent ones. Space probably doesn’t allow but I’d really like to see some of the old ones.

Why is the Beta application deleting user comments on videos and resetting video views? Some fans are working hard to get their favorite bands known. They can’t afford to have these sort of set backs. It isn’t fair to reset select videos. If you’re going to do it to one video, then you must do it to every video. Stop deleting comments and stop resetting the view count.

Why does the Beta program keep resetting the view count and comments for the Tokio Hotel videos? The street team has been working hard to get their numbers up and to get more fans watching. It’s not fair for you to reset our numbers and not to do it to someone else like the Jonas Brothers. You can’t pick and choose who gets to be popular and who doesn’t. The fans are supposed to decide.

I would like to say that I have been a faithful “Real World” watcher since the beginning and I would like to know why the city of ‘Atlanta’ has never been picked to have a Real World episode filmed in?

I just want to say that I think this is the BEST reality competition show I have ever viewed and followed. I want to learn how to hip hop dance now desperatly. I think these dance crews are completely increadible, and just down right amazing. This is just such a great talent to be displayed on T.V. thank you Dance Crews and of course Randy Jackson, and MTV. You guys rock!

hey mtv. i have a great idea for a show, it would be all about my life. it would basically be laguna beach except without the beach and in maryland, but i think you need to make a change from the same old things. the equivalent to lc, or chrissy would be this girl erin who is really cool and shed be the star of the show and everything revolves around her and me.

Hi,I was just writing because its getting really annoying trying to watch any type of video on mtv I have been trying to watch the two new epiosodes of The Hills and I have NEVER had TROUBLE before but now I am.You go to watch the video and all it says is LOADING the Whole time I sat and waited for a Half an Hour and nothing on it even changed its just the black Loading Screen the whole time……Would love is this prob got fixed so that I can Watch some shows that I misses or ill have to start looking for them else where..

WHY DO YOU PLAY AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL ALL DAY?! it’s getting old and quite frankly, the show sucks!!!!!!!!!! How many times can you honestly replay and replay AND REPLAY the same show?! it’s annoying and going to lose MTV fans for you guys!! You should play something like next, or parental control or even go back to the old stuff like bam’s unholy union, stuff people actually WANT to watch

I have just entered mtv but am not part of the community. I chose join then checked my email adress and was suppost to be part of the mtv community but when i pressed back to mtv i was no longer part of mtv no matter how many times i renew it.

As a cable network it fascinates me how horrible your video capablities are. Please stop investing in the skin formats and invest in a proper video provider, I’m sure some one at Viacom can make some recommendations, if not check with your colleagues at ABC.com.

That was the lamiest dance show since dancing I have ever seen. The group that won can’t dance without there masks. Did you see there ending performance without their masks? It was so bad! And no one came up with the idea they might have to perform without there masks..lol Just a stupid casting, judge panel and voting procedure. I do like urban dance because my 16 yr old son is in a dance troop and I’ve seen groups that were alot better than the top groups on this show. And it’s a shame that again TV looks for a certain look rather than talent. I’ll pick 3 groups that will wax any of those groups in a real street dance any day of the week! Get at me Randy if you’re a real Hip Hop Dance Battle..

The episode 320 will not play! it keeps saying “loading”. I went into the help link under the video keeps saying loading section, and I followed the procedures it portrayed, and it still will not work. Please fix it!

One of the new episodes from The Hills titled, “Back to LA” will not play. I am able to play all the other Hills episodes, but this one just loads forever. Please look into it and fix it… I NEED MY HILLS!!!

Please bring back Yo MTV Raps! It would go over so good, everybody i know would watch it, it would totally take over BET Rap City! Just have freestyle by current rap stars and show new underground artist. It was the best show ever, there will never be any better. Yo MTV Raps.

None of your embed codes work. Not even for songs nearly a year old. They all show the preview image, and then say “This song is only available on MTV.com”. What’s the point of making embed code available if none of we’re not allowed to use them?

I have an idea for a ride to pimp that I bet you haven’t done yet.
I am a mobile DJ and I have a shuttle bus that I am wanting to turn into a mobile studio to use at these outside gigs I play, where we will be ready to go when we arrive on location.
It will have a studio desk/mixer at the rear window, equipment racks for miscellaneous equipment, and some luxuries like a mini fridge, microwave, TV, etc… to keep us happy while we are out all day on location. Part of the idea is to keep us (and our computer monitors) out of the sun in air conditioned comfort, where I can perform better.

PLEASE MTV & GAS - PIMP MY RIDE! - 1984 Pontiac Fiero one of first 10,000 ever made. Needs work but runs. Only has 1st/2nd gears, various body *ahem* “imperfections”, trunk opens with screwdriver, no sound system, smells like smoke from rats nest that caught fire in the heater duct, headliner sagging, missing misc parts, engine smokes a bit, exhaust has no “cat” on it. This one-of-a-kind needs to be brought back to glory. HELP!

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I JUST CAUGHT A GLIMPSE OF……HUMAN GIANT!!!!! and i am so grossed out that i want to vomit all over you and all of the other people involved with making this show. i no longer have respect for MTV, and i dont think its funny when you show a video of a pinata giant bird eating blood off of the ground…nor is it funny when you show someone CUTTING OFF THE EMBILICAL CORD OF A BABY WITH A BROKEN CD. THATS NOT FUNNY AT ALL. its not even weird. its just DISGUSTINGLY MORBIDLY AWFUL to a point where i’d rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty butterknife than EVER watch that EVER again. take it off the air or i will never sleep again. i already have given up mtv just based on the simple commercial for the show in the FIRST PLACE!!! bye. thanks.

i logged on to watch the hills, since i had to miss them last night, the new website is nice and all, i noticed you had the shows brought to us by Prom Night, well after the first short “commercial” it just gets stuck, i even tried it on my brothers lap top and the house computer and still the same problem…

please can someone tell me the name of the song/artist that played in ep.320 Back to LA? It wasn’t WAZ “Mine to Remember.” This song played as Lauren was eating with Lo at Comme Ca and then the song lingered on to the scene with Spencer packing his belongings while Heidi sits on a bar stool. The song was sung by a female artist and was a slow jam. I’m very frustrated since not all the songs that are played actually get posted on mtv.com.

I am trying to get ahold of mtv, cause I have a Reality show that I think would be a great deal to MTV, I do believe that they will like the show. I love MTV. I think they are they best program out there, it the only music place that I listen to. So please have someone get back to me about the tv show thanks.
