MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

MTV obviously rigged American’s best dance crew. Kaba Modern should have been in the final two. Status Quo did not deserve to be on top.

America’s Best Dance Crew started off great however in the end it was very dissappointing to see Status Quo in the finals. Status Quo is NO at the same level as JabaWookees and Kaba Modern! It’s sad to see a buch of clowns (Status Quo) in the finals. What a joke!

I don’t know….for a cutting edge multi-media company, you seem to be obsessed with style over substance. Hey, great…look at all the pictures and snazzy little videos you have popping up all over. When you try to watch a show, once it starts buffering at a given point during the episode, it starts to do it constantly. This could be a great site full of fast information and streaming shows (read: FAST streaming shows) but as in the past, you seem to be more interested in trying to make it look as flashy as possible instead of concerning yourself with useability.

It’s a disgrace!! It is obvious that JabbaWockeez and Kaba Modern are better dance crews than Status Quo. Sure SQ can do crazy flips and jumps, but they totally fall short in the fundamentals of dance, i.e footwork, symmetry, and dancing in sync. Their creativity is also lacking compared to the two SoCal crews. The final should be JabbWockeez versus Kaba Modern. Both groups have killed it week in and week out. Every week they get praise from the judges and they rarely make any mistakes. Status Quo makes mistakes regularly, and the judges call them out on it. Basically, MTC should change the name of the show to America’s MOST POPULAR Dance Crew, instead of America’s BEST Dance Crew… since Jabba and Kaba are the better crews out of the three… they are consistently better, cleaner, and smoother than SQ. Just because SQ got more votes than Kaba Modern, that doesn’t mean they are a better DANCE crew. They are maybe a better Stunt or gymnastic crew, but that’s about it. Believe me, I’m not the only one who thinks this. Probably over 80% of the people who watch ABDC would agree with my view on this. MTV, stop rigging the show. We all know Jabbawockeez are the best dance crew this season, but 2nd place deservingly goes to Kaba Modern. Status Quo is a distant 3rd, and that’s a long distance 3rd.

Americas best dance crew has a phoney vote going on for the finale. Jabberwockees is clearly the superior group…and yet the voting procedure allows anyone with a computer to vote over and over again….watch and see the Status Quo group winning….that would be a farce.

I am so sick of turning on MTV and not seeing music videos. How can you call yourself music television when barely play videos. Oh that is why you started MTV2. AH No that is all shows as well. You go from playing just music to shows like Flava of Love and I love New York, Trash. I seriiously miss the early years of Music Television.

Rumors are flying around that voting for the Jabbawockeez on the America’s Best Dance crew voting page will count votes for Status Quo. You guys need to check that and correct that issue if it’s true.

Hi I was wondering if you could start showing the Osbourne’s TV Reality Show again on MTV. I miss not being able to watch it. It is one of my most favorite TV shows on TV. So if you cold start showing it again on MTV that would be awesome.

Why does MTV for the most part, no longer play music videos? What a shame that MTV now primarily plays and markets “reality” shows rather than focus on music and play music videos.

There is something wrong with one of the links in the America’s Best Dance Crew site. After clicking on videos and then the “Dance Crew: Casting Special”, the only video that does not dispaly is #5 “The Lost Coast”. Is it possible to fix it? Thank you.

Hello I had a show Idea for the gauntlet. The vet’s were so mad at Eric but they were all so scared to go in that’s why they lost. On the next season why don’t you give a cash bonus to those who actually go in the gauntlet but make it a good amount that way maybe thell be tempted to go in. Or they get more money if they make it to the final and went to the gauntlet just a thought. start showing more videos already, its suppose to be music television, not fake reality show television. made and truelife are the only good shows on mtv now… trl sucks now because it doesnt show the full length of any video like the whole station of MTV should be doing. if MTV2 has full-length videos then fine but not that many people even have MTV2 so whats the point
MTV is so disappointing now… when i see TRL, no one seems as excited as before when they exactly showed music, forget talking… show music videos already, thats the point of a music station… the music.

i’m a huge fan of mtv’s true life. i love watching that show but even someone like me can’t catch every show possible and the one’s that are on mtv’s websites, i’ve already seem em all. so i was wondering if mtv could post older or newer episodes of true life on their website or maybe sell em as dvd’s.
or maybe there’s a third party website that has the older episodes that someone can redirect me to.

I am a retired wildland firefighterand my son Nathan and I watch your show all the time. He is a new firefighter in Fairfax county VA and recently married. He has a 1985 toyota 4runner at my place in florida that needs some work.he has been trying over the last several years to get it fixed up. It is not in the tough shape most of the rides you work on are and is not his only means of transportation,He is not destitute but finds it hard to get the time and money to fix the vehicle much less “pimp it.” Just wondered if you would be interested and how much does it cost to get a ride pimped…

i Have a great idea for mtv a show called icenic you’ll hav icee people who wear blue volcanic people who wear red and black and its like the inferno and the duel fresh meat and the gauntlet so u have two teams 14 on both of them and 3 hosts some of there challenges would be running from a dog or riding a bike u can come up with some better ideas for challenges well i hope u reply for the show i made up

I just want to let it be known that just a minute ago a Flo-rida commercial came on MTV in which he says something like, “I’m reppin’ Florida, I just break it down into two syllables.”
Does anybody see anything wrong with that? If you don’t, Flo-Ri-Da will always be 3 syllables no matter how you hyphenate it.

I was watching a commerical and saw Flo Rida’s commerical. Please let him know that Flo Rida has three syllables, not two. He said, “I broke Florida up in two syllables and created Flo Rida.” Again, it’s two…Fl-Ri-Da.

For the next season of America’s Best Dance Crew would it be possible to change the layout for the voting page so that it’s not necessary to scroll down to a particular crew to vote? Better yet, would it be possible to change it now for the finale vote between the JabbaWockeeZ and Status Quo? I know you want to give everyone equal opportunity to vote for every crew. When the voting option for one particular crew is more accessible than another crew’s, even something easy as clicking on a button becomes tedious. Thanks.

So MTV, I just watched the Gauntlet 3 finale. im just wondering how you can justify, both morally and legally, that the veterans lost because eric did not cross the finish line. I understand that the rule is that all players must cross the finish line, but sticking to that rule when someone’s life appears to be in legitimate jeopardy is unconscionable. What would have happened if Eric died should his team just carried him across the finish line? And for that matter given that these challenges are so challenging why did it take so long for a medic to get there?
The Veterans were punished in that the Rookies gained a substantial lead over them, but they came back. To then be disqualified for a technicality FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING is absolutely disgusting.
