MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

I think its pretty lame that canadians cant participate in “Paris Hiltons new BFF” because i would absolutley be the best girl for it. Plus cant you just see it in the headlines about Paris and the new girl from Canada?

I really enjoy MTV and watch it religiously but your commercial w the lesson van is completely in bad taste. Children do watch your network as do mine and with all of the child abductions this is only an ad telling young children that it is ok to do what we as parents tell them continuously not to do…..do the right thing and do it in good taste TC

MTV has become a mere shell of itself. Where are the music videos? Reality tv has taken over and it is garbage. None of the shows are real. Staged garbage. You should be ashamed of your self Em Tee V. Junk.

I can’t find another place to type this but I have to say it……I am SO MAD at the veteran team and how they handled the final challenge on the Gauntlet III with Erik’s health troubles. They are selfish and horrible for the way they treated him. He was practically dying and they were dragging him because they would rather get some money than look out for a “Friend’s” life. NO one’s health is worth risking for $30000. They should all re-evaluate their morals and priorities in life. I hope MTV never casts CT again. He was disgusting in the way he yelled and dragged Erik. They all disgust me!

just wanted to say we thought in the final gauntlet III several of the vets SUCKED!! Seeing a team mate who has been there for them several times and listen to the way they talked-hope they get to watch themselves as he’s laying on the ground. What if it was one of them? Watch yourselves guys watching you guys made us sick

For the love of everything holy, please get a new host for Real World/Road Rules Challenge. T.J. Lavin is horrendous. Constantly monotonous, repetitive in his catch phrases (”that was a very challenging challenge,” “you just killed it,” etc.), Lavin adds nothing to the show; in fact, he makes it worse. The show is entertaining, except when T.J. Lavin is talking. Honestly, aside from Beth, he’s pretty much the worst thing on MTV.

I think it was soo wrong of MTV to not have declared the vetrens the winners in the Gauntlet III. I know it was leave no man behind but when someone has to go to the hospital then they didnt leave any an behind. He could have died if they carried him. He needed medical attention. MTV was wrong.. I dont want to watch anymore.

I’m filled with disgust this morning on your MTVNEWS segment as you have a muslim talking about the war in iraq, followed by “veterans” who trashed the war effort and called the United States occupiers. This kind of liberal bias has become the staple of MTV since you worship Bill Clinton back in 1992. I think it’s sad…can’t even support your own country MTV…By the way, remember when you ACTUALLY played videos? Wow what a concept. Oh well, I’m sure we’re all content with liberal dribble and 500 episodes of Americas next top model.

MTV, I noticed that you have shows like the OC, rob&big, Newport Harbor… etc. and I was wondering how you find “them”. I promise my life is just as funny, if not more exciting then some of them. Ive been talking about getting in contact with you for awhile, if you could email me, and let me know how that goes, if you would meet me and my room mate I promise you would have a funny, College Life in San Diego, or something of that sort. I cannot believe how the Gauntlett ended. I think it was SOOOO unfair. If Big Easy has died what were they to do…drag his dead body to the finish just so they could get the money. The Vets were the better team. they proved it and they were cheated. I don’t think I am going to watch another one after this.

I am very upset that mtv put jabbawockeez in the bottom two! i know there is no way in he** that they could end up on elimination. I think this is a racist thing to do. Since MTV does not want two asian crew to be up on the finales!

HI I have an idea for a fun new challenge! Couples!! It would be drama filled, I know that when my fiance and myself have to work together it causes tension, then throw competition and prize money in there and there would be fights. Because couples are rare (frank and jillian, ct and diem, danny and melinda, johanna and wes, off ther top of my head) you could include past relationships (alton and irulan!) or just hook-ups too(Brooke and Ev haha) One couple could win the prize and i think that would be enough incentive for a lot of them to do the show. So that’s my idea for a fun challenge.. think about it!

In regard to America’s Best Dance Crew:
Last week at the voting tab, Status Quo was already the first pick on the list. In order to vote for Jabbawockeez, one would have to scroll down to vote making it really inconvenience. This week again, Status Quo gets the advantage of being listed first again, I think it’s time to swap in order to be fair. Both crew danced well and it’s up to America to vote, however, having the voting page set up a certain way will skew the result.
Thank you for giving me a chance to voice my opinion.

I was really enjoying the series of Americas Best Dance Crew but over the last few weeks I noticed a trend that seemed to be saying that the Crew Status Quo was leading yet when the judges and anyone watching noticed that several of the crews members were consistently out of step, even though they had fantastic flips their dancing was lacking. I have talked with other individuals watching the show and they felt the same way, so what I thought was an outstanding program seemed to be unfortunately biased I decided to not watch the program since the groups coming down the stretch the groups competing at the end should have been JabbaWockeeZ, Kobba Modern or Breakskate and I strongly feel that STATUS QUO has not business in the final and following the trend of the program the group who has to fight to survive at the end is eliminated the following week. What a pitty it was a great show.

i think yall need to give the vets the money they won. if you have a challange that is physically impossible for someone who is that over weight to complete i feel it is just a form of screwing those people who dominated the game and deserved the money. they even beat the rookies after having someone taken away to medical attention so i think yall are lame. give them the money and save some face

its really annoying that MTV wont show many videos, and when they do they dont show much of it… even number 1 on TRL isnt a full video, if the M in MTV is music… where is the music? forget those fake reality shows, and Rob & Big has nothing to do with music same with a few other shows, MTV isnt the same as before… to be honest, it kinda sucks compared to what it was, it doesnt even show late night music videos, its like they only want people to watch videos on the website and not on the TV station which was made for music… full length videos, even if TRL has to be 2hours… if it shows fulllength videos then mtv would be atleast somewhat cool again.
i also think there should be new MADE and TrueLife episodes, i think Truelife and FULL length videos is the best thing about MTV.(obviously isnt anymore)
plus, i know alot of people who dont like mtv anymore or atleast not as much because of the lack of videos and how short the videos are.
