MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

Holy Cow! I saw TRL today for the first time and intend to be a regular watcher from now on. The segments with the unsigned artists is a GREAT idea. In fact, Ron Pope who was on today (March 6, 2008) has an AMAZING voice. I visited his MySpace site, and all of the music posted there is great, without exception. I already downloaded some of his other stuff from iTunes. This young fellow is going places without question. Bring him back to the show, again and again and again.

HELP MTV!!!! I’m trying to reach you. I have a 1968 VW Bug that I want pimped…let me tell you why. My son Jason, a very young 23, is about to finish his second tour in Iraq. The first time he spent 16 months in Baghdad right as the war broke out. This time he has spent 18 months in the Al-Anbar Province of Iraq (which is commonly known to be the worse area in Iraq).
BUT NOW HE’S COMING HOME! But, he’s coming home to no car. During his last stay home his ex totalled his car. So here is where MTV comes in. I would like to Pimp the VW for my son’s homecoming. He will be here May 4th 2008 to spend a few weeks with his family. When he goes home I’d like him to take my beloved bug but to have it beautiful inside and out, like it once was.
He has repeatedly served his country and served it well. I don’t have the money to fix the bug (which is why I can’t drive it). I am hoping that MTV will come to the rescue of a beloved soldier and honor him in the way all of our fighting forces should be honored.
He would absolutely FLIP!!

i want you to know that i like watching mtv and the shows that are on it however, the only thing that you guys are recently playing is americas next top model, randy jacksons presents americas next best dance crew, true life, and thats amore all the time. like today americas best dance crew was on like 5 times and it was on the day before that and will be aired many times the next day. can you guys please play something else every once and awhile.

Can you please let your customers know when the buffering issues with all MTV shows is resolved. Its completly frustration to watch a show thats stops every 10 secs. I see above many other people have complained about the same issue so why is this not fixed ?
I also recieve an error which closed my computer down and I have tpo restart my computer again.
Please provide a resolution

like 99% of the shows have absolutely nothing to do with music.. why dont you just change the name from MTV to Teen Reality tv or something.

I have a knew idea that is a spin- off ,of “americas best dance crew”.
I told many people who are my friends and they I agree that I should just give the Idea to MTV. I also, told many people of different raceses, and they agree that it is something different.

It bothers me that you look at pictures of a band and decide that they are “emo” just because the lead singer wears make-up. I was reading your Tokio Hotel page here on MTV.com, and I think it is so amazingly awesome that you are finally going to be playing them on your channel. However, they are just a rock band. If you bothered to listen to their music before your categorize them you would know that they are not anywhere near being an emo band. I worry that all the emo-haters out there would take one look at your categorization of Tokio Hotel and not even give them a chance. They make great music, and that should speak for itself.

like almost all the moves and dances.and i loved when all the crews had to do the michael jackson cd THRILLER because in that cd michael jackson has all his moves in it plus a lot of energy.I liked the JABBA WockeeZ dances because to me they never gave up and i think there’re ALLSOME!!!

This is a general video comment, not about these 2 beta features. I couldn’t find where to comment elsewhere.
I want higher quality video feeds. Fox.com is a great reference. I was trying to watch ABDC but couldn’t enlarge it enough without it being blurry. Fox.com basically has HD content streaming without disruption and it’s much more usable.

I ordered a pair of veritcal car door hinges from this website. http://www.exoticcardoors.com. have ya’ll every used there hinges. and if so how where the hinges. because I got a set of hinges from there because they had ya’lls logo saying they ya’ll buy from them all this time. well I have a 2001 mitsu eclipse. and when I got my taxes this year I ordered them. 600.oo dollars. well that’s was all the money i had. well I put the hinges on today with my father in law. and I put the shock on that was a 800 pound shock. well the door was vertical but when my father in law tried to close the door the hinge broke in half and the door came down and slammed on his leg. now he’s all brused up and I am out of 600 dollars. how can ya’ll endorse a website that sends hinges that don’t even fit peoples cars. I had to make so many modifactions to my car and now I have no door on my car and cant get my old hinges back on and I am out of money to do anything. I swear I used to love your show and watched it everyday but this is really messed up how I just got screwed like this. please someone write me back from ya’lls staff and let me know something. thanks. jerry

I am so hurt that live in color got sent home. i actually cried with them. That crew put their heart and soul into their performance. I don’t think it was fair that fish n’ chicks got to stay just because o girl tap danced. I think that live in color was the better of the two and they deserved to stay. They have been consistent throughout the whole show.

MTV, your programs are seriously dumb..just plain dumb. What has Viacom done to you? Furthermore, can someone please explain why such idiots, as you have employed, are allowed to create television shows. Leave smut like that on the internet (that’s what its for) and put out some genuinely entertaining (not mind-numbing) shows. Perhaps then your fan base would broaden beyond 14 year old girls and a few creepy old men. People are growing tired of watching faux-reality shows that do nothing more than provoke generalities about how moronic people can be.. grow up and become a real network again..

I understand that you are the provider of the new MHD which I think is great. The only problem is, and you should know this by now, that that the multi-color logo that you keep putting on the screen for periods of time ruin projecter televisions. Both my 60″ Mitsubishi, which I believe is a big sponsor according to the site, and I my HD projector in my media room will be ruined over time if I watch the channel on them. I don’t know why channel providers like you don’t get it and make the logo into a multi-grey color like other channels have figured out and flash a mutli-color logo only once in a while. I’m sure there’s a huge population of people out there with pojector sets that have the same problem. Especiallly those who have Mitsubishi hat had the leading HD sets that were mostly projection. If you’re going to be in the HD business, you ought to at least have the understanding of what static, mutli-color logos do to projector sets. In the intereem, I will be tuned out and back to HDNet.

im really disappointed in your channel. i can remember when MTV actually played music. now every time i check the channel it is a bunch of shows. ya’ll seriously need to rethink your name, or go back to an old school approach of actually playing music videos. and not all that rap/r&b crap.

Okay well, THREE problems and its concerning us jonas brothers fans and the when you look me in the eyes video. First off we dont understand why theres NEGATIVE comments now?! Right now: -17447 comments. The video views are going up and down. First from 222,000- 219,000. And then from 226,000 to 222,000. This is very crucial and this must be fixed. HOPEFULLY you all are reading and ths commenting section isnt here for nothing. Tomorrow starts another TRL countdown. We’ve noticed the video for ” when you look me in the eyes” has gone up and down on the countdown despite the fact it has so many views and comments. But now that its all screwy like, how do we know its not going to affect its postion tomorrow? We demand some kind of solution and response on TRL why all of this is in the making. Maybe you guys are experiencing some technical difficulties or something, but as soon as you let us know the issues here, we’ll rest our peace. Thanks.

I’ve been watching the early morning video blocks because of my weird sleeping habits, and I caught yesterday a new band with an awesome song on the MTV Video Wake-Up. All the information of the artist was “undefined”, but with a little help from the internet, I found out that the band’s name is TOKIO HOTEL and the song “THROUGH THE MONSOON.” This band’s music is phenomenal! There’s nothing else like them on the American air-waves right now, and they sound so talented and fresh (Not at all like the stale, whiney-voiced mainstream bands)!! I keep watching every video block now, cuz I’m hooked, and today I just saw another video of theirs, “READY, SET, GO!” You’ve gotta play this band more often, and find more videos too! I’d also love the chance to vote for any video of TOKIO HOTEL’s on TRL!!

The site is slow and freezes often because it is unable to handle the traffic and buffering simultaneously. Also why does it take almost a full day for full episodes of shows to be posted? Other channels have their shows posted the next morning. It is disappointing that MTV is so low budget and can not get their internet feed worked out. MTV promotes their trendiness but unfortunately you are very behind with technology.
