MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

You have to stop showing re-runs of the last best dance crew because it just breaks my heart how you let one of the best dance crews on your show. You all dont know what dance crew stand for. Live In Color is the meaning of dance crew. Hands down, they were top three. Sorry to say this but you guys messed up.Bad decision.

I can not believe that that’s Amore is going to be on air let alone t.v , A lot of people i know feel the same way it looks so stupid. there are so many dating reality shows already. Dominico is just a waiter so i don’t know why he gets this stupid show in the first place i guess I wont be watching MTV for a long time

MTV, Can you please do a reunioun show of Engaged and Underaged: I do want to see how some of the couples are doing since their wedding and since the show’s last season, I think its been about 2-4 four years since the show. I don’t know im trying to remember when the show aired. Can you please do that because Im curious to know and I just want to hear how some young people can marry and be happy if their responsisble. I’m lookin forward to hearing some success stories despite what some people say about being married young won’t work which is true in a way,but I rather hear the postive side of things.

There are many MTV “Cribs” episodes, however, I cannot seem to find the one that I really like and is still my favorite out of all them…Tommy Lee’s Malibu mansion that aired many years ago….PLEASE, put this full epsidoe on your website.

The videos are extremely slow and frusterating. It stops to buffer, and when you try to pause it to allow it to buffer, it doesn’t!! That makes no sense. Also, I see that you have the play list for America’s Best Dance Crew, but you do not have the live auditions playlist, or premier. I have been looking for the second song Kaba Modern danced to during the live auditions, and I can not find it anywhere!! If you are going to post information on your site, I suggest you post full and thorough information. Posting Ep.3’s playlist, and not the auditions, is just laziness.

very annoying being able to see video listings but not actually view videos due to copyrights and plus having a video gadget in windows vista to view said vids and cant was also a complete waste of my time. so sort the copyright stuff or take the page’s out of world view and leave it in US domain.
as i said annoying you cant watch what you want when it’s there for all to see.

I think that you guys should stop playing re-runs of Americas Next Top Model because thats all you show on the weekends. You have other shows to play re-runs of, not just that one.

I just saw a commercial on your MTV station ch 28. and both my mother and I watched as a man grabbed a pair of hedge trimmers and cut his privates off. Let it be known that you would be the first people I would sue if this happened to a young child never mind IF one of my children happened to see it! Then the man thinks this is a way of getting attention - you people are disgusting as this is very inappropriate for ANYONE to view!

I watched That’s Amore last night and I really have a problem with this show and these men.
It seems that the black women that they come in contact with (Domenico and Ashley) always seem to have a foul smell to them, what’s going on with that? It happened on Shot of Love also and now it’s happening on this one as well.
maybe you need to start to checking the personal hygiene of your contestans, specifically the black ones, but this doesn’t make sense at all to me.

First, great player. Love the ability to go full screen. Nice work. Also love that you allow comments to feed under videos. Nice community aspects to it all.
BUT: You should really let the embedded videos play through on other sites. This is a very poor decision and is not how social media works. If you want to drive traffic to your site from the embedded videos, there are far better ways that will have a much bigger ROI. I’d be happy to talk with you about this.

i just want to say that it is not fair that the jonas brothers are #1 in trl voting but everyday they get lower in the countdown. this does not make any sense and mtv should fix this problem. they shouldn’t having voting available to the fans if results won’t come out of it.

Fans of the Jonas Brothers have been voting every day and you can’t even tell if you look at the count down. If they’re number one in voting, they should be number one on the countdown. Plain and simple. Don’t let us vote if it’s not even going to mean anything.

Wow, I just heard about the arbitrary way you have chosen to administer TRL, as revealed in the Jonasphere. Way to continue proving yourself irrelevant, MTV!! Nickelodeon/Viacom corporate interests much? The only reason I have visited any of your properties lately has been because of them. Will you pull this with the Kids’ Choice as well? i really dont like trl’s new system of the countdown. you say you still want me to vote, but my vote doesnt even count because you want the countdown to be all-inclusive? what’s the point of that?! well i have something to say about the voting on TRL.
this is what you guys said:
The TRL countdown is now a reflection of your votes online plus your top songs and artists from all the places you go for music. We’re taking everything into account… the most watched videos on mtv.com, your votes, online downloads, music charts, the biggest ring tones, what you’re listening to on the radio, and more… and combining it to create the hottest, most all-inclusive video countdown around!
So what does this mean? It basically makes the countdown totally arbitrary, is it only artists that MTV thinks should be number one regardless of the vote? What is the point of having an online vote if it doesn’t really matter? How can we trust that the Kid’s Choice Awards are going to count since MTV and Nick are owned by the same company (Viacom)?

why does it take so long for the making the band 4 episodes to show up online…every other show is up to date…and MTB4 episodes still havent showed up as often they should, even after they have aired! You have a Pimp my ride contest that reads in the “rules”, Must be between the ages of 18-28. California has promotional offer laws. I can understand the over 18 years of age part because of legal agreements, but the 28 part doesn’t seem fair or even legal.

Hi, I am contacting you onbehalf of the voting on TRL. Frankly, IT SUCKS. I know you want to have the best and most accurate video count down around, but the way it’s being done is stupid and unfair. What the hell is the point of having online voting if ti barely counts for anything? The Jonas Brothers could easily be #1 based on voting, but they were #9. This really needs to be looked-over, and definetly re-thought. I would also like to point out the TRL is most-likely rigged anyway, because after doing some research online, I have found that ‘When You Look Me In The Eyes’ by the Jonas Brothers, is high on all accounts. Therefore, it should not be #9. I plan on continuing to ask on a change in this category. I, and other fans are angered, and cannot and will not be silenced.
