MTV.com Community Beta Launch
As promised months ago when we flipped the site from a short-lived Flash experience back to an HTML platform, we’ve been constantly working on new MTV.com features and improvements. The smaller stuff has been rolling out quite regularly, but now we’re ready to test something a bit bigger.
Today we took the first step towards implementing community features with the launch of beta.mtv.com. Admittedly, it’s a baby step: mostly it’s commenting and the ability to rate content (video, photo, articles). But creating the back end for this lays the foundation for other features that comprise most online communities (user profiles, customization, messaging, etc.) that we will unveil in the coming months.
We have also made it possible for you to snag our music video clips and post them to your MySpace page or blog. The video embed codes sit to the left of our music videos.
Because we want to get it right before going public, we’ve got the beta launch. We invited people who previously registered with MTV.com to take part and asked them to invite their friends. But you’re not left out, either. Interested MTV Labs users are invited to join in, too, by clicking here.
So, please, kick the tires a bit for us. Rate music videos new and old, sound off on a news article and engage other beta testers in conversation. And let us know the good and the bad of how it’s working by leaving a comment here.

I would just like someone to point out how you get off [and away] with calling your enterprise ‘Music Television’ when alot of your programming comprises shows which have nothing to do with music? And when music videos do get played, they’re usually obscured with dumbass graphics, advertising other crap shows.
No wonder you’ve had to create additional channels, but as time goes by each of them spin more and more non-music material and the cycle starts again…

Why do you even call yourself MTV? Have you forgot what that stands for? MUSIC TELEVISION. When I turn to this channel I dont see music, what I see is the exact opposite. I see these things, Sluts looking for “love” which isnt real incase you text book morons out there don’t realize, Once the show is over so is the relationship. Realty isn’t real, You want real turn off the T.V walk out the door, Vuah-lah REALITY no scripts. Or i see artificial women telling our youth how to look “hot”, no that doesnt work, All they are doing to the youth is making cookie cutter people who are exactly the same. Or I see real world, Hmm i’ve seen that what 18 + seasons, it needs to die. I remember when MTV really was about music. Not only 4am till 10 am. I dont need rich arrogant ~~~~%#%%#~@~. And dont tell me to look to MTV2, your doing the exact same thing to that as you did with mtv. If your gonna keep showing reality shows change your name for gods sake.

Just to let you guys know that this will be my last time on mtv.com because if I see that Cingular commercial one more time I’m gonna jam a blunt object through my skull. You play it before every video, and have been for months. There’s plenty of other websites that I can get this stuff from. Youtube doesn’t have commercials. Thanks for your time.

I have a few questions to ask you guys. I was hoping to use e-mail but I couldn’t find an e-mail address I could use. I am actually looking for some information on a job. I am only 14 years old (15 in January) but I was hoping I could get a head start on a few things so I could be prepared. I have always dreamed of being in broadcasting and journalism. It would be an honor to work as a host on MTV. I would gladly do anything for MTV. I love music and I am a very outgoing person so I think this is a perfect job for me. I plan on going to the University of Missouri as soon as I graduate to major in journalism and minor in media. I am also trying to get a few jobs here and there on a classical radio station. My father is friends with a DJ on the station and I am hoping that it could give me some experience. My father is also friends with a man who works behind the scenes at Channel 5 here in St. Louis and I’m hoping I can get a little work there for some T.V. experience. I was wondering if there was anything in particular that I am required to do or that would help with joining the MTV team. My biggest dream is to host on MTV’s New Year’s special. I watch it every year and I haven’t missed anything. I know it will take a long time to get there but I am very willing to work my way up just like everyone does. I would just like a few pointers of what I could do now that I’m in high school. Maybe something else I could do. I am also wondering about the salary. Not because I’m money hungry but because it would be a nice thing to know so I can plan around college and my future. I’ve always wanted to work either on T.V. or on the radio. To me it is a dream job. It would help very much if you could write me back and give me some idea of what I could do to be experienced and ready for a job at MTV. You might see me around in a few years. I’ll be watching on New Years Eve.

Hi my name is jernee but everyone calls me suga baby. on account thats my fav candy… but anyways this was the only i can contact mtv. Well “you” guys do alot of reality shows and i think i came up with the perfet one. Me and my best friend also known as my sis think we will be great forour own reality show. You will have to meet us to get the full experince of us. we make up or on words and sayings all the time. and alot of kids look up to us. I think that people(teens and adults) will like our show because we are so down to earth. we are not rich and we go to real high schools and have real problems that real teenagers go though. we have alot of good ideas for the show and our parents are behind us 110% of the way… even though i think they only say that because they dont think it will happen. but i have faith in myself and my sis. we dont consider this a dream its reality because it will happen! My sis and I are funny, cute, 17 and 16, and we all ways stand up for whats right… so plz get back at us with your feed back

i want to find out about pastry shoes, i heard that the simmons sister were going to make a thin mint shoe, well my daughters troop are going to start selling the cookies again this year and i would really love to be able to talk to them about some how trying to incorporate these shoes with the cookie sales this year , i know that we could earn so much more money for the girl scouts in south dakota if we could do something with the simmons sisters and their new thin mint shoes, like maybe having some of the girls wear the thin mint while selling, this would give so much good public advertising for them and i know my daughter would be so excited about being involved with something like this, my problem is i don’t know how to get a message to them, i would so appreicate if you or someone with mtv could help me out, if someone could email me at my email address, i could give my personal number and have someone call me. amy ,sweet heart, I’m in the process of watching my best friend see her family fall apart as the result of a suicide. The reason this follows your appearance on 45th is because the latest CD she purchased is yours. she is intensely private and so i am not sure exactly where she is at with things. we could all do with a little bit of hope as they are facing the first christmas without her. her name was michelle. she stabbed herself in front of her husband (my friend’s twin) in what we can only imagine was a loss of reality for a moment. she has two young beautiful boys that she loved dearly so i’m pretty sure it was not planned. i love my friend and the ironic thing is her influence in my life has saved me from a similar fate. i am not writing for any other reason than to say “go-to-damn-rehab if you need to!”. it’s not always obvious why you might want to live but if at the moment you can’t do it for yourself it’s okay to do it for someone - anyone- else. SO Sweet talented Amy, if it’s true ,and you do need to go to rehab please GO GO GO!

I have been searching effortlessly through this entire website, and amazon.com and smarter.com and other venues trying to find all of the seasons of The Real World.. From Season 1-18 I think is the most recent one (I know that one is not going to be available.) Some of us really liked the show it was an exscape from our own realities for a while. If anyone can tell me where I can get them from I would appreciate it… (I would prefer not getting a bunch of “lost seasons we never saw” I just want to collect them all from the beginning thanx.

Hey MTV!!! I am a huge fan of all your shows! When I saw “Legally blonde the musical” was going to be on mtv I went crazy. I fell in love with the show instantly. I think if you can get permission from the musicals’ company you should put the show on DVD. I can tell you right now it will be a huge hit becuase alot of people really like the show. Hey MTV! So on the preview for the season after the first episode the show of “A Shot at Love” the preview shows Bobby with the key at the finale. That’s not cool, you totally spoiled it for everyone. I would like to believe that she runs after Dani and changes her mind but we all know that won’t happen. Not only is it rude to Bobby… but I just don’t think MTV would allow Tila to be like “Just kidding Bobby!! Give that key back!” I can’t imagine Tila being that messed up if she actually cares about him.. I just can’t believe you guys really have made that big of a editing error. Disappointing..

The season finale of the Hills music list is wrong. There is a song that is played but not listed. It’s when Spencer shows up @ Bolthouse and gets told Heidi left early. I’m sorry but that is NOT Broken by Lifehouse. I’ve heard that song and read the lyrics. Whatever that song is, it’s a good song. I’m trying to find it but no luck. The words that are heard are: in the air there’s a feeling/something’s gonna change/ every man and every woman’s life is gonna be rearranged/ oh oh it’s a brand new day. I just think that MTV has gone downhill in the last couple of years. It used to be music videos and things like that and now they are ripping off all these shows from other networks, such as americas next top model and beauty and the geek, which dont get me wrong i love, but then going and playing full episodes all day long because they have nothing better to play, accept Next and parental control which are some of the lamest most fake shows in the entire world. The only shows worth watching are tela tequila, the hills, life of ryan, Run’s House and rob and big and everything else is pretty much crap, but then these shows that are actually good they play these episodes like 5 times a week just in case we miss it the other thousand times they play it! Ah! MTV please think of better ideas for shows and stop playing these lame shows a million times until we can’t even stand it anymore!

MTV stands for Music Television. Why is it now Reality tv? In 1998-1999 is when it all started going down hill. Now you can only catch videos in the super early morning and TRL. which TRL isn’t much of a real countdown because there is no slot for us to enter in a song we really want to hear. We have to pick from the list of videos that are giving to us so how is that us really controling the countdown. It’s not. Bring back Music Videos all day and play the Reality tv stuff *the Hills, Life of Ryan, Real World* at night.

We are geared towards local bands, artists, venues, booking companies, record labels, design companies, and promotional companies in New Jersey.
